The Fiat 'Supermirafiori' was king of the Rally world back in 1979, and Matchbox were bang on target when they introduced the chubby little Fiat. I love this Powertrack car, its stocky little proportions make it a most unlikely 'racing' car. I think Matchbox did well to choose it over the much more popular Lancia Stratos.
The light blue Fiat (top) is the 'standard' car. Both US and UK catalogues show versions that are slightly more basic but essentially they didn't change overmuch.
The US prototype car (above) was a mid-blue colour with yellow detailing. This particular colour was not a production blue. It was also issued with a simple number 5 and lacked the other decals shown on the production versions.
The UK Prototype (above) was the familiar light blue finish but only had a single number 35 decal. No other decals were featured.
As with the TR7 & Escort, the Fiat was also previewed in the PT-6000 instruction booklet. Here it is seen without its glass in a different blue with contrasting black accents. How cool is this?
